How to Install

To install the LDOCE5 Viewer, please take the following steps.

STEP 1: Installing the Longman Dictionary

If you've already installed "Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English 5th Edition (LDOCE5)" with the Full install option, you can skip this step.

If you've installed LDOCE5 with another type of install ("Minimal", "Medium" or "Recommended"), you have to reinstall it.

If LDOCE5 hasn't been installed yet, you first have to install it. You MUST select "Full" when the LDOCE5 installer asks you to select the type of install.

STEP 2: Installing the LDOCE5 Viewer

  1. Run ldoce5viewer-setup.exe to start the installer.
  2. Follow the instructions on the installer window. It's easy.

STEP 3: Making Index Files

By default, the installer will automatically launch the LDOCE5 Viewer after the installation. Otherwise, you have to launch it manually ([Start Menu] → [All Programs] → [LDOCE5 Viewer] → [LDOCE5 Viewer]).

  1. When you run the LDOCE5 Viewer for the first time, it will ask you to start making some index files. (These files are used for searching)
  2. Click "Yes" to start indexing.
  3. This process will take some time (It typically takes 3-10 minutes, depending on the speed of your machine). Please wait a while.

Done

Once the index file has been built successfully, you can start using the application!
